The opportunity

Why battery storage is now central to solar in California

Under the previous net metering rules, homeowners could export excess solar power to the grid and receive credit close to the full retail rate. Solar largely sold itself.

That structure changed. Today, exported power typically earns around eight cents per kilowatt-hour, while peak electricity can cost as much as sixty-two cents. Every solar home in California is now selling power to the utility at a fraction of what it costs to buy it back.

A battery closes that gap. It stores midday production for evening use and stops the customer from giving away low-value power and purchasing high-value power hours later. The explanation takes less than a minute and consistently lands because the math is already visible on the homeowner's bill.

This is why nearly seven in ten new California solar customers now add a battery. It is also why the retrofit market remains wide open: hundreds of thousands of households already have panels, already understand solar, and already feel the mismatch every month. You are not starting from zero, you are completing a system the customer already owns.

Rates continue to rise. In the five years ending March 2026, average residential rates increased 39% at SCE, 57% at PG&E, and 43% at SDG&E. Each increase strengthens the case without changing the core message.

The role

What you would actually be doing

We are battery only first, solar second. That means one conversation, one product category, and a proposition a homeowner can check against their own bill while you are sitting there.

You work with four platforms rather than one: Tesla Powerwall 3, Lunar System, FranklinWH aPower 2 and the SolarEdge Home Battery. That matters in the field, because you are not forced to recommend the only thing you carry. If the cheaper option is the right one for the house, you can say so and still close.

Solari does not install. We specify the system, secure the incentives and rebates the homeowner qualifies for, and manage the project. Licensed install partners across California handle fulfillment. Your job ends at a signed agreement and a happy customer, not at a roof.

Both sides of it

What we provide, and what we expect

  • What we provide

Four battery platforms instead of one. Current, verified information on every utility incentive and rebate program in the state, which we file on the customer's behalf. Product and objection training. A team that answers the phone.

  • What we expect

Experience. This is not an entry-level role and we are not going to teach you how to sell. We expect you to work from the homeowner's actual bill rather than an estimate, and to tell them when storage is not worth it for their house. That is the whole company, and it does not work if reps do not do it.

How it works

From first conversation to paid

  1. You get the bill

Every conversation starts with a recent utility bill. It shows the homeowner's real usage and rate plan, which is what the whole proposition rests on.

  2. We build the proposal

We size the system, identify which of the four platforms fits their existing equipment, and check every incentive and rebate their specific utility currently offers.

  3. You present real numbers

No invented rebate, no expired tax credit, no figure that cannot be defended. The gap between eight cents and sixty-two cents is already on their bill.

  4. We handle the rest

Paperwork, permits, interconnection and the install partner. You are not project managing a roof crew, and you are not chasing a utility.

Before you apply

The straight version

  • This is a commission-only, 1099 independent contractor role. There is no base salary and no guaranteed income. Your earnings depend entirely on what you sell.
  • Nothing on this page is a promise of earnings. Any figures we discuss in an interview are examples, not projections, and past performance by other reps is not a guarantee of yours.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes, your own expenses and your own schedule.
  • We are a small company. That means direct access to the founders and fast decisions. It also means less infrastructure than a national operation, and we would rather you knew that before you started than after.
  • California only. We do not operate outside the state.

Solari Storage is a California battery sales and program-qualification company. We do not install solar or batteries; our install partners handle fulfillment. Rate increase figures cover the five years ending March 2026 and are stated per utility. Export and peak rate figures vary by utility, tariff and season.
